The Night Watch literarily means observing at night.

When I was 19 years old I joined the military, I had to be the night watch man 2 hours every day.
During the night watch time, as a young soldier, I was always exhausted.
Due to my great tiredness in daytime, sometimes I roamed from my night watch spot everywhere in an unconscious state. One day I was dozing off and walking around at the same time, suddenly I bumped into a man in an unseen place. Right away I realised that I walked down pretty far away from the night watch spot unconsciously, and the 'man' I bumped into was a huge tree trunk.

I started working on this series from the moment I bumped into the tree trunk.

From the moment I first experienced in an optical illusion. In making this series, I would like to re-create the images of tree, forest and an atmosphere that I saw at night.

I chose a place to photograph without any information like a young army man following instructions.

By reaching certain places at night, I explored and photographed something I did not expect before. A sudden encounter with unseen nature on my journey reminded me of my night watch experiences in the military service, a gothic (an uncanny) and mysterious memory.
