Herbarium, Vinca Minor
Already during my previous stay in New York last October I have been amazed by this extraordinary rectangle surrounded by skyscrapers; it was then that the idea of a work dedicated to this park came into my mind. People frequent it as a natural place of their lifes, and the park, with its luxorious vegetation, returns them the received attention.
During one of those visits I decided to create an Herbarium of (the) Central Park. I work a lot with 3D images, and I am particularly intrigued by the tension that spans between reality and fiction, between an image that seems to originate from reality but then at the end of the day turns out to be a synthesis: there is a very fine and therefore uncanny line between them.
The Herbarium will be constituted exclusively by synthetic images, using iconographic references from traditional antic herbaria. I will include plants that can be found in the park between February and may; a further selection will be made by adding plants from the Herbarium of Leonart Fuchs’. The images will be printed on photo paper and framed, turning therefore into an analogical dimension.
