Biography

Sema Thai Marionette was established on 10th April 2004, it has been inspired by the creativity of the “Kae-Dam-Dam” group (Black-Sheep).

By the time Kae-Dam-Dam had a plan to develop its own marionettes so the group discussed this with Mr. Nimit Pipithkul a ‘Silapathon Award Artist by the Contemporary Cultural Art, Ministry of Culture in 2007.

Mr. Nimit was attracted by the idea, viewig marionette or string puppet was a media folk art which the culture that appeared widely in Asia, as well as the traditional art of the oldest in the world.

This is well recognized in many civilized countries. Consequently, the primary funding was sought to complete. With the idea to create the Thai marionette art identity in media the form of folk art and contemporary art. Those cause benefit for social both educations, moral, ethics and to lead sufficiency economy philosophy concept a creative way to carry cultural Thailand’s valuable.

The meaning of the word: Sema

• Sema is a symbol of Ubosot (Buddhist sanctuary) boundary. Sema can be seen in religious places as the protection from the bad spirits. Also it guards the good spirits, merit and Buddhist faith for the happiness.

• Sema is Thai warlord character who arm weapons for protecting Thailand during Ayutthaya period.
