Biography
Eleonora Tonini was born in 1977 in Grosseto, Tuscany. She is a conceptual artist who blurs the boundaries between high and popular culture. Her artworks are designed and realised with a unique style, which is firm and functional but also poetic, especially when she works on smooth wood panels. The basic material used for her works is definitely wood, but for the most part of her artworks there is nevertheless a tension between wood and other materials, such as plastic, paper, screws, nails and, above all, books.
Books are used by Tonini as a structural element of her paintings, part of a collage that gives to her paintings an almost sculptural character. At the same time the books, with their evocative covers and titles, allow Tonini to reflect on the ambiguous relationship between art and market driven aesthetics. The original creative process that takes her to realise a poetic love sentence or a concise homage to an iconic artist, is striking, challenging and surprisingly refreshing.
Her personal style comes from her studies in Milan, at the prestigious “Istituto Marangoni”,and then from her work as a fashion stylist. In her pieces it is possible to capture her refined aesthetic research.
