Biography: Fernando Serrano was born in Leiria, Portugal, in 1969. Self-taught, he was introduced in the Plastic Arts in the late 80s, participating in the 90s in group and solo exhibitions. In addition to painting, he integrated projects of alternative music, with various themes included in collections of independent publishers. Throughout the 90s, he exposes his works over the district of Setúbal, Algarve, Lisbon and Alentejo, and there is a gradual foray into three-dimensional work on the canvas itself. Then he opts for mixed-media technique, which in addition to acrylic and oil, uses various materials. Wood, marble powder, wire, cloth, gunpowder, metals, furniture, varnishes, keys and others, are some examples. The culmination of this phase is reached in 93, when together with two artists of this generation, he conceives, designs, installs and sets ‘Estruturas para uma Revolução’ (Structures for a Revolution), shaking the Youth Centre in Setubal and its hundreds of visitors. During the 90s continues to grow artistic and creatively, assimilating experiences in travels and movements in which he identifies, trying new techniques and materials that can apply in his work so as to expose them in group and solo exhibitions. Due to professional issues (Telecommunications engineering, occupation and degree), he slows down his artistic movement for a few years, returning in 2006 with new works, together with a new strand emerging by then, writing. He starts using the pseudonym FerdoS in social networks and in his blog 'Evao e Ada', where he writes and describes in a single way his H&S (Heart and Soul). In 2009 he creates the blog 'Azul Profundo’ (Deep Blue), dedicated exclusively to the arts, highlighting artists who he admires and inspire him, places he visited and his own work. Some of his paintings are currently spread around Greater Oporto, Greater Lisbon, Alentejo and Setúbal Peninsula, where he lives, paints and writes, with a new breath of striking projects, including writing his first book. GM Artist Statement: "To Feel ... As a part of me. A feeling that raises me up and takes me to a world which I know is real and fulfills me... A Millennial Heritage! Canvas and brushes, varnishes, and china clays ... Marble powder or torn cloth, loose or twisted metal ... Wood or nails, wires or twines ... A thousand and one textures, shapes and colors ... The whole creation is everything! To create is to taste that same flavor of reaching further. The uprise that you feel, before, during and after a cotton canvas becomes eternal. Muse, the power of speech, spoken and written, walking beside me. Surely you understand me. Be welcome to a short moment of creation..." Abstract Expressionism, Symbolism and Surrealism are the major Art Movements that influenced him. A lover for three-dimensional works, he opts for mixed-media technique, which in addition to acrylic and oil, uses various materials. Wood, marble powder, wire, cloth, gunpowder, metals, furniture, varnishes, keys and others, are some examples. Travelling, knowing new places, people and cultures are The Graal of inspiration. Art, a passion of life!
