Biography
Amy is an artist living and working in Southampton (UK), she has a degree in Fine Art from the University of the Creative Arts Farnham. Her work has developed through and is heavily influenced by her dual upbringing in a middle class suburban household, and working class concrete council estates.
Her latest project titled ‘Albion’ is an exploration of signage within working class communities in Britain. By researching the histories, architecture and signage behind local community buildings she hopes to bring to attention the cultural importance and histories of these spaces. Some of the buildings and architectures are close to the artist's heart and family, and are an attempt to re-familiarise herself with the communities that make up these spaces and those that she knew as a child. The work hopes to engage the viewer by raising questions of social housing and loss of local, tangible community.
