Morphine

Morphine

The installation is based on the general idea that medecine and pharmacy are entering our daily life. The morphine ampules that cover the objects in this installation alienate the objects from their functional or emotional function. Morphine as a drug normally is used in extreme harmful situations like suffering of phycical or mental illness. But morphine does not only helps to surpress the anxiety for death and harsh physical and phychic confrontations, it can also help you to escape reality by getting you in a higher state of mind.
The cold glass of the morphine ampules give a shiny, crystal-like light, enforced by the used lamps. The ampules can cover the hidden history of the objects by covering the portrait or the little shoes of a child. It can also litterary cover time by covering the electric clock. The chilly atmosphere, enforced by the absence of any human being may epitomize not only to grand themes like mortality, but even with the absence of a human being, the set creates a certain death-in-life situation. The questions this installation raises are certainly not meant to be a cynical or defaitist reaction to our daily situation. The installation can also refer to hope, recovery and enlightment.
