Motion Studies

Installation, Animal, Abstract informal, Fantasy / Visionary, Video installation, 427x427x671cm
In Motion Studies imagery of flying birds created in the Flight Lab at the University of Portland, and in the wild, was edited using the DaVis system of computational fluid dynamics, a scientific imaging software. This footage was projected on a series of stainless steel and hand painted Mylar “wings” suspended in the gallery. The video projections on translucent surfaces created an activated space that viewers could move around and through. The wings responded to every breeze and air current meaning the physical space was constantly changing. The video projected in the installation was exhibited both as a part of the installation and as a stand alone work.
