Memory
performance, video, frottage on paper, 2012.
The work examines the parallel of impression and imprint. The video is filmed on the Great wall of China, Badaling, near Beijing. The wall is visual ready-made substance that we can identify with ready-made chair in work “The chair” by Joseph Kosuth. The wall symbolizes the separation and dividing of space, it is a boundary, but it is also the symbol of the Chinese nation. The work reviews the appearance of surface memory of a certain space in the moment of creating the impression. By this act we preserve an evidence of existence of certain space (in this case Chinese Great wall), what would we normally do by taking a photo. What is a complete realistic display of surface? By imprinting with frottage technique, realism creates an abstract patch, a sign of real surface.
