Anthropometry is a pseudo-scientific method, which uses a
system of measurements and observations to explore and categorize
the features of a human face or body shape.
This method is used in the work as a symbol for artificially created
stereotypes. An example is the European colonization era, which
forcefully categorized the ethnicity of their subdued nations, thus
deepening the differences and disagreements among these ethnic
groups. In the same way, the artificial creation of borders regardless
of the natives of these colonies, harbored conditions for future
military conflicts.
This work shows a contrast between composite portrait and the ambition
to create its anthropometrical categorization. A combination
of a number of authentic faces of a specific ethnic group coincides
in a portrait showing an idealized appearance. The variety of characters,
enforced by deliberate displacements, results in a portrait,
which is impossible to describe by anthropometrical measurements.
Depicted are pairs of ethnical groups, which revealed extreme
examples of mutual hatred resulting in open war conflict and
genocide.
The work uncovers aspects of ethnic intolerance, which present
considerable risk in nearly all parts of the world and mainly in
wake of the contemporary crisis of multiculturalism.
