Dispersed in the isolation of prison, suffocated by anguish, we lost our identity.
Our executioner brutally imposed it on us.
All that remained was to ... look at us far away, beyond the bars and, on this side, try to get back into focus.
Installation as part of the "Segrete Tracce di memoria" exhibition set up at the Grimaldina Tower of Palazzo Ducale in Genoa from 21 January to 7 February 2011
The installation consists of two mirrors in addition to a grating present in the exhibition space. A first mirror, larger (90 x 50), positioned beyond the grating, allows the viewer to see himself beyond it and to imagine himself imprisoned. The distance forces the viewer to force his gaze to focus his image. A second mirror (40 x 60) is placed against the grating. It is superimposed on a frosted glass that allows the viewer to perceive their image without there being a real possibility of focusing on it. The idea serves to represent the loss of identity of the individual forced into a claustrophobic and unnatural environment.
