Bannow's Drugs

Bannow's Drugs

Painting, Interiors, Human figure, Oil, 16x20cm
I have decided to delve into
my childhood for the
inspiration for this new
painting. Down the hill at the
end of our neighborhood stood
a blonde brick building housing
Bannow's Rexal Drugs.
Second to the soda fountain,
my favorite place in the store
was the pharmacy counter.
Richard Bannow was the
pharmacist/owner of the store
and unlike most pharmacists
today, he had the time to talk
to those who came into his
store, even children. When I
ran out of chemicals for my
chemistry set, he was the go
to man for resupply. Aside
from filling my bottle with
whatever chemical I needed,
he would impart information
as to the properties of that
chemical. He retired years
ago and his store is now one
of many party stores.
