Series:"Alphabets-Beauty of Diversity", Explosive Italian romance / Modern Antiquity
Works of Great Masters of the Italian Renaissance continue to inspire modern artists worldwide. In this painting, “Medusa Rondanini” is crowned with a dove -the universal symbol of peace- to balance against the “negative” symbolism of the snakes that usually form her hair.
It is a well-known phrase that in Italy “love is in the air.” This can clearly be felt in the romantic dinner conversation between the David and Medusa sculptures. The letters of the Italian alphabet, which form the base of this romantic language, are ensconced in the 21 pizza sausages.
The painting depicts the broad range of industries the Italians have influenced with their artistic innovation including design, music, fashion, engineering, and cuisine. The display of Jesus’ foot alludes to the Catholic Church’s grand tradition of influence, support, and preservation of art, which ultimately helped Italy become a “museum under the open sky.”
