Erba Medica (don't touch but nibble)
analogic interaction
1 kg of Alfalfa seeds
water, canvas 140 x 50 cm, 2
trestles, 1 sprinkler, 1 video camera + 1
tripod, 1 computer, 1 DVD player /
timing: 5 days
realized at the exhibition Turno 14/22 curated by Alterarti,
Cascina Cuccagna Milan 2011
Leave the seeds to soak for a night. Place the canvas onto the two trestles. Rinse the seeds and spread them uniformly on the canvas. Squirt abundant water onto the alfa alfa four times per day. Cover the seeds every night. Document by video stop motion. Do some editing every day. On the fifth day, project on the wall the video of the growing sprouts. Open to the public and announce “don't touch but nibble”. So people can start to eat the spouts without the use of the hands. Filming as necessary. In good environment conditions, the sprouts hold eatable for five/seven days. To stop the growth, turn down the room temperature.
Erba Medica is one of the tables of the project Presc<x>riptions.
Presc<x>riptions collects interventions about food and cooking process, habits and forms.
Every intervention is as a recipe which prescribe a series of actions and timing that are an effect and a cause of a video creation.
