FROM FALSE TWINS TO REAL TWINS
From false twins to real twins is an art project about twins and how they have been studied throughout history for the advancement of humanity. Beyond the first study based on twins carried out by Sir Francis Galton to determine whether nature or the environment were crucial in human development, the exhibition opens doors to other perspectives in research on twins based on the emotional and spiritual aspects as part of the human being. Through the personal examples of the artists, who are also twins, a series of works is presented which appeals to a sense of shared identity, unsolved mysteries and games of confusion.
The title refers to several aspects. Firstly, it makes reference to the French term faux jumeau (“false” or fraternal twins, dizygotic), as compared with vrais jumeau (“real” or identical twins, monozygotic). This title summarises the personal research that led the artists to discover that they were monozygotic rather than dizygotic sisters. It also refers to the falseness of clichés and stereotypes that they reject as twin sisters, providing their own "truth". Lastly, it appeals to the viewer to solve the mystery put forward and to engage in the contemplation of the work which tells the story of the false twins who have become real.
