Compensating the past, 2009

Tryptich: self-portrait in Mauthausen (1995) during the making of my book To Hell and Back, about Jewish survivors to the Holocaust; my grand uncle Edmundo with the Nazis, with whom he collaborated during WWII (1945); my grandfather Gaspar with the higher officials of the Spanish army during the Civil War (1937). Our ancestors were Jewish, who converted to Catholicism during the Spanish Inquisition. My father's family were high rank officials in the Spanish Navy during the Civil War and during Franco's dictatorship.
