This Is Not Me

This Is Not Me

"Who am I" is a question getting ever more difficult to answer, yet understanding oneself is critical to well-being. Identities evolve and that's just the beginning of the problem. My latest epiphany on this subject? Yet another risk arises from using Facebook, Pinterest, etc. - how they slowly, relentlessly, and knowingly hard-wire users with a false “this is me” ID. I'm just saying scraps of stuff don't add up to a person. Just consider how much "performance" is posted everywhere - you think you're this, you want to be that, or you're expected to be something else.

So I make portraits to acquaint myself with me - and by extension the larger concept of "self". I try to contextualize “identity” as a dynamic process, and show its 'fingerprints', i.e. thoughts, feelings, and emotions - both conscious and unconscious.
