Talking Pictures
The evolution of technology & media gives us new ways to quote & refer to iconic figures & images. ‘Talking pictures’ animate classic, iconic, public domain images, to create a new breed of video. The work is based on ‘spoken word’ texts, dealing with culture, technology & art issues, quoting leading figures in the above fields. The texts are auto-narrated by text to voice software.
The work is constructed of four ‘pictures’:

cultural memes, The dynamics of innovation, duplication and the test of time in art & technology are parallel to the dynamics of mutation, duplication & natural selection in Evolutionary Biology.
Pic 2- the rise & the fall of the Great Green Glob
The story of a still photography set made by Yoav Ruda
The set was constructed of two layers (super imposition). The first layer was shot in ‘Dumbo’ Brooklyn, capturing downtown Manhattan skyline with a 350 mm lens. The second layer was exposed in Doron Hillel’s studio, capturing a glob through a magnifying glass. The images of the distorted glob rising above the twin towers created an apocalyptic feeling, one year before 9/11.
The double exposure effects were made on the original film, back in 2000.
Pic 3- The wall talks
A tribute to the inspiring Tel-Aviv Street art scene
Pic 4- In the dark room
Original quotes of JOSEPH NICÉPHORE NIÉPCE, Leonardo da Vinci & Erwin Schrödinger create a collage dealing with the history of photography, the relations between subject & object, all in the light of Quantum mechanics theory. The images include landmark photographs in the evolution of the medium, as well as the first ‘light painting’ photographs.
