Mariam is a celebration of the female form and was inspired by a variety of artworks ranging from the Indian miniature paintings of the late seventeenth century to more recent paintings by artists such as Goya and Bacon. The painting aims to locate the figure within the canvas whilst maintaining a balanced composition. The deliberate ‘nothingness’ of the background pushes the figure to the foreground, bringing it to our attention, and subsequently inviting you to engage with it.

I love this painting and I enjoy them because it has its own light.
