Instilling fear in the masses, blaming them for personal or collective faults, has always been,
through the centuries, the most powerful way to exercise control over them. Today, we’ve got over
most of our religious and superstitious fears - whether imposed or self-imposed - which affected
the past centuries, but this does not mean that we are completely free from them. It seems instead
that the "desire" of a catastrophe originates almost from a human need, from the pursuit of a means
able to shake the existential stupor the human being is immersed in. A kind of “stillness” which so
closely resembles the imaginary illness of Aunt Leonie in Marcel Proust's Recherche:

"[...] she would extract from the accumulation of those monotonous days (on which she so much
depended) a keen expectation of some domestic cataclysm, instantaneous in its happening, but
violent enough to compel her to put into effect, once for all, one of those changes which she knew
would be beneficial to her health, but to which she could never make up her mind without some
such stimulus".

Still today, as and perhaps more so than in the past, the human being is victim of hidden influences
powered by the persuasive techniques of advertising: there is always someone profiting more and
more from our fears. This is the reason why we decided to “register" the trademark of the Mayan
prophecy: until the countdown hits zero on December 21, 2012, we will take care of monetizing
your fear.
