Black Eagle, 1834-?

Black Eagle, 1834-?

Painted from the historic photo of Edward Curtis. This larger than life portrait is a homage to the American Assiniboin Indian hero who was never captured in battles. I unified the contemplative brush work of the East, and the intuitive expressionistic West to portray the subject as a mythical warrior. The stylization of which conveys a visual harmony along with bursting energy. The painting is rendered in a body of heavy pigment textures, with emphasis on congregated abstract forms as a representational art.

"They say -and I believe it- that is difficult to know one's self. But is also difficult to paint it..." (Vincent van Gogh) With your "Black Eagle" you achieved both!
