Nobody Excluded

Under the Indian caste system Dalits were called ‘untouchables’. They were considered impure and unable to change their status which was determined by birth. Today discrimination due to caste is considered a criminal offence in India, yet prejudice against Dalits persists, and often degenera- tes into episodes of extreme violence.
Nobody Excluded discusses the difficulty of eradicating these long standing prejudi- ces against the Dalits who represent appro- ximately 16% of India’s population. Leading experts, activists and religious lea- ders add their voice to those of Dalits who share their experiences with us. We witness their daily routines, the obstacles they face as well as their hopes and dreams for the future. The primary focus of the documen- tary is on Dalit women who are the most vulnerable, not only in terms of caste, but also but also in terms of gender.
