Flower

Painting, Family, Illustration, Plants , Human figure, Mixed technique, 28x35.5x4cm
I planted hydrangeas in our yard three years ago about the time when I get pregnant. Now it blooms beautifully every summer in our yard and my 3 year old daughter and I enjoy the splendid color of heavenly blue and purple a lot. I appreciate those happy moments with my daughter, yet, raising a child as a stay home mom wasn't all that happy for me. I tried to express both my sorrow and melancholic feelings with happiness and hope using symbolic images.

All my works are painted on Korean rice paper glued on wood panel. And I use ink, gold powder, and mixed glaze on coffee dyed background. It shows my admiration of Korean Folk Art painting, Minhwa, and represents my status as an Korean American.
