La liberté éclairant le monde
The Statue of Liberty used to represent the first message of hope for all immigrants who could see its huge size from their ships when they arrived to the United States in search of fortune.
The torch is held with pride so high that it can light the way, the table shows the date of the American Independence, the crown has seven points (as many as the seas and continents) and the chains at her feet are broken: all these symbols could only be the reassurance of a better world!
Time has also shown that "not all that glitters is gold": capitalism won in that nation that praised itself for being an example for the rest of the population, and this undermined the values of equality and freedom it had encouraged for so long.
Then the greed for economic power caused wars that were able to show the world the fragility of an inviolable word: "democracy".
My job comes from this awareness: portrating a new reality.
Elegance and pride disappear living room for the image of a man, frail like a woman’s hope, who hardly supports a feeble torch and shows with shame the warmonger table.
No crown: let a baseball cap entertain the spectators!
On an empty pedestal, reflecting the suitcases full of broken dreams.
