Riverine Zones Connected (Water - Video - Installation)

Installation, Architecture, Landscape, Video installation, 600x250cm
R32;R32;In his video-room installation "Riverine Zones Connected", multimedia artist Philipp Geist shows the unity of human and animal life and also of objects by filming our immediate but simultaneously far-off reality R32;in international rivers and canals. He takes the visitor on a journey presenting an unusual, global perspective of all aspects of our surroundings. Using underwater video cameras, he shows the ground of the rivers with its plants, rocks and sand, human traces like garbage, the deep and shallow waters with fish, and the bushes, architecture and bridges. The water, which is the source and precondition of life, is seen as the connecting element which joins the animate and inanimate to show the equality of all forms of life as postulated by Buddhism.
The work is being installed according to the exhibition space. The movies are displayed on monitors or with projectors. Small brooks and vast rivers are always shown in equal proportion. There would also be the possibility to integrate Venetian canals into the installation. The overall topic of Geist's installation is networks. This refers to the aim of the Venice Biennal: connecting countries/cultures.
