Il Canto di Orfeo

Il Canto di Orfeo

Installation, Ideas, Landscape, 400x180x700cm
"The Song of Orpheus" belongs to a new series of works, the "burned trees", realized from 2011 with charcoal, oxide and graphite on papers of different size. The reflection about illness and death is at the beginning of the cycle. The illness means not only individual sore but a social evil too. Into the sequence every work has its own autonomy.

The installation “The Song of Orpheus” consists of five sheets of 150 x 180 cm each one. The installation project foresees a fixed course among the drawings hanging from the ceiling of the space. The observer has to walk between them, from the darker one towards the lighter, where the trees begin to thin. The work symbolizes the Orpheus’ coming back from the hell, when, followed by his lover Euridice, he was ordered to not look back until both had reached the upper world. An invitation to take a chance in the present.
Orpheus is not only a symbol of incorruptible fidelity to an ideal. Its mythological figure, who embodies the eternal values of art, it is also the basis of the Orphic religion that reaches its apogee in a time of great social change, where people acquire a strong awareness of their rights, giving voice to the desire of liberation from murderous regimes, becoming a sort of “sacred refuge” for the most enlightened minds, in which the adepts should receive comfort in the present and eternal freedom in the future.
The path inside the installation becomes the suggestion to undertake a journey, an adventure, even risky, but enlightening to the discovery of the self, the world, the new opportunities.
