The seven cubic forms allude to the unavoidable dogmatism of as many religions – all secluded within their pretension to unchangeable perfection. As the archetypes of certainty, religions contrast the human constitutive insecurity or wavering, and the contrast is stressed by the black polished Plexiglas: it cannot retain any image, nor admits any transformation; their proclaimed universality notwithstanding, religious beliefs are either non negotiable or corrupted.
Within, each cube makes explicit its categorical exclusiveness. The absolute black surface is stigmatized, and infringed, by a single symbol, and an interplay of truth and illusion steps in; entering in touch with his/her own spirituality entails a magic effect: the faithful takes the shape of the symbol he identifies with, though the whole may be no more than the effect of the physical mechanisms (absorption, transmission, reflection) that govern the impact of light on the matter.
Beyond that, a more basic ambiguity persists: the human/divine relationship is codified and transmitted through all social contexts; but spirituality is perhaps nowhere else than within man, much like the self-projection revealed by natural (not artificial) light within the black cubes.
