Two weeks after
This portrait was painted just two weeks after the death of the subjects husband. The painting attempts to capture the vulnerability of old age. The work shows a very brave smile doing little to mask the enormous grief within. The softness of the skin and the ethereal colours emphasise the subjects emotional turmoil – the fear of living alone after so much love and companionship.
Painted at four sittings over a period of 12 weeks this work is the artists first portrait.
Richard is currently working on a further series of portraits based on poverty and homelessness.

would you mind translating the your comment into English please. The painting is of my mother and was completed shortly after the death of my dear stepfather. My mother visits this site regularly and loves to read the opinions of other thoughtful artists. Many thanks.
