Wattle Flower

Wattle Flower

Painting, Nature, Sacred / Mythological, Acrylic, 80x100x4.5cm
"Wattle Flower" is an artwork which was inspired by the traditional name or Avay of one of Australia's most pre-eminent ceramicists, Thancoupie Dr Gloria Fletcher James AO. Thancoupie means Wattle Flower or Black Wattle which grows in Cape York. This piece is a homage as Thancoupie is Jack Wilkie-Jans' Tribal Grandmother.

The artwork was sold at auction at the Cairns Regional Gallery during the 2011 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair to fund raise for the Thancoupie Bursary which is a scholarship fund for Indigenous art students.
