For generations of computers a flashing bar – a place holder within text processing – has stood for (so far) nothing.
A fluorescent tube's formal shape and its behavior when being switched on, bear a certain resemblance to this place holder.
Within our project, a sensor behind each tube recognizes whenever it is shining continuously, then the tube is switched off and restarted again.
Even though having been switched on all at once at the beginning of the exhibition, after a while, due to technological randomness, a very complex animation occurs, out of virtually nothing.
