Painting of a Camera

Painting of a Camera

Painting, Memory, Still life, Oil, 91.4x91.4cm
This painting is meant to serve as a crossover between technology and paint. As an artist I find it extremely important to draw inspiration from new technologies and new ways of creating, ways that represent the current time and place because questioning the medium used is just as important as the outcome image. As a formally trained painter, with a recent interest in video art, I am finding it harder and harder to justify painting in this era. Having so many options to make images with, I find it frustrating to relate to paint in the same way I used to. This painting is meant to have an ironic undertone, calling attention to mediums and materials in art, allowing them to be the main portion of the art itself.
