In the work of Cristina Papi affective dimension, the survey of the ego and domestic spaces, the attention to gesture in its rituals dimension and to the object as a sediment of daily life and memory, leading the artist to explore and transform, as in an alchemical process, pieces of the inner world, private and personal. In a sentimental journey, à rebours Papi reconstructs fragments of a discourse and a psychological and emotional path through which she establishes a dialogue seamlessly between past and present, particular and universal, inwardness and
outwardness. The past leaves traces of memory that become fragments of a story consigned to others in order to know and recognize each other in an image reflected in the mirror, opening a flow of communication with new stories and experiences in a game of multiple references and suggestions.With Arma Christi Cristina Papi combines visual and musical suggestions:photo, objects, carillion are kept in showcase transparent as relics of a domestic religion, votive loads of affective value but also stresses for a reflection on the history of costume. The petticoat, curlers, the shred of a tank top for men, the picture of a family lunch allude to family rituals, looking feminine beauty and self-care in the passing of days,always the same, in the home, games role between man and woman, father and mother, to an intimacy behind which still hides the complexity of a path with thorns to maintain balance, keep the order, to reconcile the private sphere with the public dimension, the visible with the invisible, the said with the unsaid.By creating a space in which the viewer is always accompanied to live his own stories and imagine his presence, Cristina Papi invites the viewer to participate, to turn the handle of the music box so that everyone can recognize and remember their own music, allowing himself the opportunity to get lost in the flow of memory for as long as he wants.Federica Mascagni
