UTOPIA

Painting, Memory, Abstract informal, Acrylic, 152x152x5cm
This artwork expresses a childhood recollection of a playground, which I would find refuge in from the school’s bully. A fantasy land of play and laughter where I could escape and be myself. The black lines are loose and fluid depicting freedom and liberation and convey a sense of contentment and excitement. The solid black lines convey the possible interference from the bully creating tension within the composition. The colourful patches overtake the black bars and convey the colourful world in which I inhabited during play. The white patches coming through symbolize purity, innocence and protection.
