In the photographs of DS Allen, the traditional craft of photography plays an important role. With the current dominance of digital technologies and electronic media one can often not distinguish between reality and between the appearance of reality, between fake and the original in photography. Therefore, DS Allen chooses to work with the "concrete" materials of analogue photography. These analogue materials "show", that what you can see in the photographs is real and is still there. No constituent part of DS Allen’s photographs are present by accident. Every detail is captured accurately and the image is always thoughtfully composed.
DS Allen's images are not presented in enormous formats and demonstrate no big emotions but what they do present is the hauntingly simple precision of an accomplished artist. His beautiful silver-gelatine prints support this sentiment with perfection.
