Scaffolds and Screens
Scaffolds and Screens is an investigation into patterns based on two different types of images: one related to form, the other to content. The colour prints of the series investigate the formal elements of the photographic image. They revolve around lens-based properties of colours and surface, repetition and ornament. The black-and-white photographs are primarily occupied with the content of the image and focus on the depicted subject matter. They are informed by archetypical representations and explore basic structures and universal themes. The combination of these images reflects my interest in visual categories and the way they are connected to each other. I like to think of them as anchors that create the framework for variations, as modules that form a visual language.
