Fragmentation: a brainwave-controlled performance
The performer wears an electro-encephalographic headset which detects his electrical mind activity. The analysis of its output reveals the power of the performer's three thoughts which are used to move an avatar in the maze. Music is generated from the position of the avatar inside and visuals are generated from the music. The time and structure of the composition is thus entirely determined by the choices and concentration of the performer. The point of the whole piece is materializing something invisible: the concentration, stress, mistakes of the performer, into something palpable for the audience. The audience can predict and observes the performer's choices and struggle. With this piece I explore the fragmentation of personality of the "post-modern man". Exposed to aggressive stimulation and overwhelming data streams, he must make important choices to follow a rational "mind path" while his time quickly runs out.
