Learning to Disappear

Learning To Disappear, is a digital update of traditional street photography. The images in this series express the feeling of being scrutinized by the very people I scrutinize on the street with the camera. The series uses multiple images taken from a single vantage point and digitally composited together to examine the relationship between photographer and subject within contemporary street photography. The final product is a rather hyper real depiction of the city street in which all subjects contained in the image are confronting the artist (and by extension the viewer) through direct eye contact. Though a similar effect could probably be achieved by shouting or ringing a bell or acting out in any number of ways, I choose to composite these images because my goal is not to make a spectacle and capture reaction, but rather to be inconspicuous and capture peoples reaction to the presence of the camera itself. I am only interested in the people who are interested in me.
