Graves of St Petersburg

With a florid purple sunset illuminating the peculiar statues scattered around the cemetery, the painting shows an amalgam Russian graveyard as a celebration of individuality. Each monument portrays (sometimes obliquely) the job, fears, beliefs, politics, grandiose persona or status of each dead person. A rebuke to the growing ranks of oblong slabs.
