My Ongoing Portrait Index is meant as an antithesis to family albums and the way images are shared on social networks; it consists of a full-body black and white portrait of everyone I know. Each person is photographed once, and then printed on 10x8 paper, which is then labelled and stored in a portable file box, ordered alphabetically by surname. Each portrait is meant as a document of that person's existence and so each person is represented in the index how they happened to look at the time the photograph was taken (no amendments are made if an individual from the index undergoes any dramatic changes in physical appearance). The index is ever-growing, as I will not stop meeting new people, getting to know them, and taking their portrait. Along side the file box of portraits will be a corresponding list of names in an A4 booklet. All portraits are for sale, however as part of the concept there is only one edition of each. If a portrait is sold it will be printed again on archival paper and mounted on aluminium, and will out-live the buyer and subject of the photograph.
