Man-Made #2 is one of a series of images made using a unique photographic process. A chemical reaction takes place when sweat comes into contact with unprocessed silver gelatin photographic paper. Using light and chemicals standard to darkroom developing, the result is an abstract imprint of the human body. In modern society people are increasingly represented through digital self-portraits. These images are constructed by the photographer to convey a certain persona, acting as their representation of self in the public domain. In contrast to this, Man-Made #2 acts as a direct connection to my physical appearance, an imprint of the landscape of my face, and in turn acts as an unbiased self-portrait free from any manipulation or construction.
