Commissioned Condition
"Commissioned Condition" is a 24 minutes long animation played in loop, the piece can be displayed in a one screen or three screens installation.
To realize this piece, I commissioned people online to improve a portrait of me. A drawing that was made by street artists in Barcelona in 2013. Using the principle of the Chinese Whispers I sent each new version to a new person asking them to improve the portrait. Those amateur artists based in different places of the world did not know who was the person represented and were simply asked to make the drawing look “more realistic”.
I recieved 14 drawings or representations of me which I animated and to whom I gave a voice. The result is a strange discussion between those improved versions, an pointless but uncanny conversation about the self and its representation, about origins and identity, about virtuality and physicality. The text is based on the emails exchanged with the commissioned artists and want to lead the viewers to reflect on the construction of identity in our society and the status of art online.
