These portraits made at historically significant outdoor swimming pools in London use the analogue technique of cyanotype. Heavenly bodies tumble through the bluespace around them created by light and fixed by water. In a warm, connecting and participatory way these images capture moments of Summer. Friends gesture and gossip to one another, a mother and daughter float and connect, a father lifts a child, an athlete appears to run. Echoes of Matisse spring to mind in colour and pose unintentional yet visible. Human figures are laid bare and revealed with a lightness only usually experienced in water. Images appear to be on the cusp of becoming, at once recognisable yet anonymous in an enigmatic glow, alluding to our universal spiritual heritage.
