Michael is my brother-in-law, has Downs Syndrome, and we have been taking photographs together for about 40 years. We began this project about 5 years ago. It began as an investigation into the use of artifice in portraying people both in photography and painting and has evolved into the contest of perceiving identity in general and specifically in Downs Syndrome. This is a small sampling of what we have been up to. The project also contains a number of oil paintings produced in China from digital files.
