Corviale: ritratti Kilometro-politani
The project was conceived to document what is happening at Corviale, one of the most debated area in Rome’s suburbs. By overcoming diversities and turning disadvantages into opportunity, and isolation into sharing, the community of Corviale is growing knowledge about the value of the buildings and landscapes around them, and, morover, about the good quality of human relations coming from this process. People are getting back to their identity and to their collective proud, and each person is achieving his personal role of “creator” and “co-creator”, in agreement with the most recent scientific discoveries.
As an artist, a researcher and cultural worker who was grown in this territory, I do need to collect this collective heritage, turning it into artistic action first, and the into an opera.
People, their commitment and their energy are placed in the center of everything through the photo-energetical portrait.
Everything is energy, everything is a vibration, these are the new discovery of quantistic phisic; every reality is made of vibrations. As Bohm writes, we are both observers and creators of the reality that we observe. Each reality is firstly a vision, and each vision is stricktly connected to the conscience of the observer, that is observed back.
So I got the idea to portrait the couragious and lively community of Corviale. These people have “shown their faces, their stories, their energy”, and connected their own dreams, their expectation and will to transform. This way they are reshaping and enriching their territory with projects and actions, a territory that is conceived as a sum of individual potentiality combined with a collective vision.
The technic to realize the portraits is divided into different phases: each person is photographed, then invited to write few lines about himself in relation to Corviale, and then is guided to realize the energetic painting using MelAjna© method, a path to self knowledge, a process developed by the artist throught 30 years of research about phisycal ad metaphisical pittorical matter (read more at www.monicamelani.org).
The process is simple but functional: a sheet of paper is covered with water, so that it resambles a reflecting mirror, ready to receive liquid watercolor drops. The “interferences of wave and vibration” generate shapes that look like maps for a path rich in memories, emotions and traces of life. All the material generated (photography, writings and painting) are then digitalized and combined to get the photo-energetic portrait.
To the artist the portrait is an instrument of interior research, to better know the others and comunicate whit them. Each one is a piece of a more complex collective reality, and each person is a co-creator of it. It is a new vision that the artist impresses to Corviale, whose unit of measurement is not the so called “grey big building” but a Kilometer of people that live in it and animate it, giving it the colour of their energy.
The project started on november 2013 and today it consists of about twenty portraits: the first ten meters.
