Skûtsjesilen

The title of this work "Skûtsjesilen" is the Frisian word for sailing with these dutch original flat bottom vessels. In the Netherlands on the Frisian lakes there is every year a big sailing event for those vintage boats. The weather portrayed here with its dark cloud formation could be considered typical for the region, as I remember it from sailing there on my father's boat, and for the ambiance of the event, while it adds to the aura of nostalgia of the painting.
