Etna in a Book

Etna in a Book

Painting, Nature, Architecture, Landscape, Acrylic, 29.7x42cm
In the spring Karen Vermeren observed the Etna with white snow and black volcanic sand patters. She related the volcano to a rafters’ composition that exercises the same twofold power as the tectonic plates and the volcanoes: they support the roof and help balance the weight.
The book is used as an exhibition space. The pages function as sequels and show the processes of the volcano. By turning pages the cyclic changes of the earth in time become visual.
Artist book, 30 x 42 cm (A3), 20 pages, acrylic & cut outs on plastic & paper, accompanied by a video of the artist book (hands turning the pages), 1:53 in loop : http://vimeo.com/84437271
