Familiarity Breeds Contempt (Title Image "The Apothecaries")

The concerns that are central to my work draw parallels between the visual language in contemporary art practice and art of the past, whilst endeavouring to bridge the gap between historical interpretations and modern interpretations of the world about us.

I use an image of an historical art work as a starting point, which is depicted in monochrome. I then develop the painting referring to theories, quotations and opinions from the past and present, adding colour and invented detail to the composition.

The human condition has remained a continual influence in my research, the critique of which is a key part of my working process.
