“It’s amazing how people need to express themselves!”. This is a statement of one person interviewed at Burning Man event. And this is the main concept of the move “Dreaming about Burning man”, in which you can find the essence of one of the most extraordinary event in the USA, totally dedicated to expression, art, creativity, nature, freedom.
Freedom to express, thought, create, in a special context: Nevada desert, the perfect and special location for a real and at the same time, a poetic tale. It has been realized throughout an alert and attentive eye, the artistic eye behind a camera. The author takes no position, not rated; she leaves the tale to express throughout imagines, sounds, protagonist’s words, in a personal and neutral way.
Narrative structure is composed by two levels: the imagery tale, with its background music accompanying, like a fil-rouge that bring us to discover people, places, structures, lights and details; the second one is a word tale, using interviews.
The author tips of the objective in a respectful manner, putting the participants at ease, letting them the freedom to express themselves and to tell their own thoughts, feelings, ideas about Burning Man experience.
The ensemble of these points of view (man and women, young and older people, organizers and spectators, …) give the beholders a clear idea about the meaning of Burning Man, as if they were there.
During the imagery tale scenery slowly changes.
The director takes the viewers to interact observing different details, in a soft style, according to the mood of the place they are visiting.
A calm mood, without judgment or strong turns; it makes by tender images with soft colors, once again in order to let viewer live the feeling of being.
The scenery of the desert is not disturbed by the director, who tells objectively what happens with personal touches of narrative cuts, closures of details; music is not intrusive, but necessary support.
An important point is the difference between day and night description of Burning man. The film change log from day light to night darkness: an alive shift, mysterious and fascinating thanks to the fire and its games.
During the day we can see people, costumes, parades groups of people, carts and carriages forms of skull, ship, dragon, shark, a baby carriage in the desert that moves on its own, moved by the wind.
At night, the impact changes: the spectator witnesses to a world between the grotesque and the playful, with a unique charm, and even a little “fear”, the fear of things you consume, you have to let go.
The playa is slowly consumed, leaving ashes and remains where it has been the stage of energy and creativity.
