Pat is here. I am here. I enter the lens, the place, the snapshot, I occupy a space, I am, in time, here and now. I leave myself behind to observe myself aloof, from a different perspective. And find myself again. The self-portraits have revived my spirit: if I am able to have a creative view of myself starting from emotions, I can have a creative view on all other things.. That’s the way it has been for me and that’s why I consider crises the real revolutionary spirit of our freedom, because, if they are faced, they bring about change through inner renewal and the search for one’s own emotions.
“I think in no society is an artist free. Being overwhelmed by “normality” and the average of any society where he/she lives, an artist is a living challenge. He/she always represents the opposite of the idea that all individuals in all societies have of themselves. In my opinion, there always is a margin of freedom, albeit small to a point that it might even be not measurable. I cannot tell you to what extent this is freedom or not, but, certainly, something escapes the mathematical logic of mass culture, for the time being.” Pier Paolo Pasolini (interviewed by Gideon Bachman in 1975)
