Violence, a mold to avoid.
The installation “Violence, a mold to avoid” consists of two dolls infected by mold. Together they portray the physical and psychological violence that affect the most children in Latin America.
Violence against children and adolescents has been a problem that had not been measured but until short ago in Peru. However, in recent years, there has been significant progress and innovation regarding this matter. The Demographic and Health Survey ENDES 2012, shows that the greatest percentage of violence against children occurs within the family sphere. Being the psycological violence the highest with 70.2%, follow by physical violence with 25.8%.
“Violence, a mold to avoid” is a simple installation for a complex subject. I imagine that, if one could visualize the effects of violence over the body, it would look like mold.
This work could be interpreted as an allegory of violence against children. The body of one doll is cover by mold, signifying psychological violence. While the other doll is wearing clothe cover by mold, illustrating physical violence. Both are stand up over a table in the middle of the room, one beside the other.
